SURFACE PREPERATION
-
Surface must be clean , dry and free from dust, grease, mildew and wax . Remove any
loose/peeling
parts and prime with water base acrylic primer. if surface is glossy, it should
be sanded to a dull finish .
-
If mildew is present the surface should be washed with chlorine bleach solution ( 20%
household bleach and 1% liquid detergent in warm water ).
-
If concrete is new then allow for 30 days prior to application.
-
The ph of concrete should be less than 10, chek with ph paper . if surface is not within the 10
ph and the large amount of efflorescence ( seen as a white salty deposite on the concrete
surface ) are present then the concrete should be acid etched prior to painting ( eaching
solution is 1 part of commercial HCL and 10 parts of water mix ) apply the wash uniformly
with clean water and allow the surface to dry .
-
The concrete must be dry prior to coating (less than 12% moisture content) but if the surface
is totally dry then spray little water on the concrete prior to painting. It will help the paint to
penetrate into the concrete giving greater grasp.
Application
-
One coat of Water-base acrylic primer.
-
Applied Acrylic wall putty it is always better then handmade oil putty& white cement based putty (Birla putty). Birta
Putty's phi is 14 which damages the paint shade and gloss since all Premium quality acrylic water-base paints have
stability only up to pH of 10.
-
Apply two coats of water-base latex paint to get good smooth finish.
-
Above all if Birta putty is desired then spray water two to three times on the wall to cure the cement (Birla Putty) and
reduce the pH to 10 for paint stability.
-
If applied Birla putty then one coat of primer is must before the application of paint
